Showdown at Midnight
With the bandits out there, one has enough trying to kill them without the supernatural entering the mix. "Showdown at Midnight" is a collection of short stories about the Wild West gone weird from an assortment of authors putting in their visions of an old west that is haunted and filled with curses from more than the mouths of drunken bar patrons. Exciting and hard to put down for fantasy and western fans, "Showdown at Midnight" is a collection of fiction that is well worth considering.

Following their fantastic Six-Guns Straight From Hell western horror anthology released earlier this year, Science Fictions Trails Publishing of Vail, Colorado has just unleashed a new volume, Showdown at Midnight.
Much like the previous book, Showdown at Midnight is indeed a page-turner. Editor David B. Riley has assembled an entertaining and engaging cadre of weird western tales that includes ghostly train robbers, zombie gunfighters, werewolves, pilfering poltergeists, various curses, a bounty hunter from hell, and even a plot to kill President Ulysses S. Grant with a vampire bat menace.
This newest collection is a cross genre delight. If you are a fan of supernatural terror on the trail, pick it up today.
I will say for sure that this is the first collection of short
stories that I received that is dedicated to the Old West horror.
Immediately I was intrigued and the cover art also captured my
interest. This collection has twelve stories ranging from killer
vampire bats to a ghost horse to supernatural bounty hunter.
One of the stories that I enjoyed was Samurai Blade by
John M. Whalen. Mordecai Slate is brought in to investigate a
death on the edge of town. As soon as he starts to look into it,
he knows things are what they seem and not everyone is telling
the truth. But what he does know is a samurai blade hanging in a bar is behind it.
This has just the right amount of gore, action and horror with a great ending.
Another story I liked was Ghost of a Chance by Bill Craig. Bolan enters town
looking for someone and at first you don’t know if he is friend or foe. You know
that he has history in the place and with the people. When he finally finds what he
is looking for, his motives are unclear. All you know is nothing good will come of
it. This story is great and will keep you guessing until the last paragraphs.
All the stories picked by David Riley are great and the way he arranges the
stories gives it a nice flow. You never know what yo are going to get when going
from story to story. I recommend this book for those looking for something
different in the horror genre. You can pick up this book at sciencefictiontrails.com
or Amazon.
